About this trip
Upper Mustang feels like Tibet: wind-carved canyons, cave dwellings, whitewashed monasteries and the walled capital of Lo Manthang. The trek follows the Kali Gandaki valley north from Jomsom through Kagbeni, Chele and Ghami.
A special restricted-area permit is required (we arrange it). This is a sample itinerary.

Itinerary
1
Day 1 Fly Pokhara to Jomsom, walk to Kagbeni
Scenic morning flight and an easy walk to Kagbeni.

Day 2-4 Kagbeni to Ghami
Enter Upper Mustang via Chele, Syangboche and Ghami.

Day 5-6 Ghami to Lo Manthang
Pass Dhakmar’s red cliffs and Ghar Gompa on the way to Lo Manthang.

Day 7 Explore Lo Manthang
Visit the monasteries and the royal palace; optional ride to the Chhoser caves.

Day 8-11 Return to Jomsom
Walk back south by a different trail through Yara or Drakmar.

Day 12 Fly to Pokhara
Morning flight back to Pokhara.
